About Patrick Krohn and One-Eyed Dog Studios

Hello, and welcome to my site. While working as photojournalist for 10 years, I had many opportunities to try different types of photography. The papers I worked at were small, so I was expected and encouraged to go beyond the typical news and sports photos. I was able to play with features, fashion, portraits, architecture and even the occasional landscape. News and sports were still the bulk of what I did day to day, though, I often worked hard to find unique angles or moments to make my work more interesting.

After 10 years, I left the news side of the business, and went into advertising sales. I did different types of sales for about 12 years, before changing careers once again. I am now a pricing analyst for a large manufacturer here in Aiken, SC.

In 2016, I bought my first DSLR, and reacquainted myself with photography. The bulk of my work is created while commuting to and from my full-time job. My early career as a photojournalist in the West influences my art as a nature photographer in the South. I often return to locations — such as Carolina Bay Nature Preserve and Boyd Pond Park — to document their rhythms and changes over time. Since 2019, I have been exhibiting my landscape and nature work as well as teaching photo classes at local galleries The Aiken Center for the Arts, Art and Soul of Aiken, both in Aiken, SC, and 4P Studios in Augusta, GA. In 2021 and 2022 I was lucky enough to be chosen for the South Carolina State Parks Artist-in-Residence Program.

I do not have what you would think of as a typical photo studio with lights, stands, backdrops and props. As a nature and landscape photographer, I think of all the locations I visit and enjoy – even my front yard – as one of my living studios. Each of these studios has its own natural light, foregrounds, backgrounds, features and even personality. Please take your time and visit all of my different studios. Thank you.

Who is Rogue the One-Eyed Dog?

We adopted Rogue when she was about 2 years old from a local rescue group called Molly's Militia. She was already missing her left eye from an infection she got when she had run away from her prior home. Rogue is a long-haired Boston terrier mutt, and when she was new to us, she was all black — except for the shock of white fur on her head. Because of this, she reminded me of the X-Man Rogue. Thus, the name. She has also lived up to her name in that she is a mischievous little girl. She is a free spirt and is always looking for a way to do her own thing. We are not completely sure of her age, though we think she is about 17 when she passed in early 2023.
