And Now for Something Completely (Well, Slightly) Different

“Litany Against Fear”, Aiken, SC March 2024

Hello Friend,

I’ve now done 30 weeks of these little blogs. And I’ve been pleased with how they are helping me get a better idea about my photography and maybe get a few others to think about their creative journeys as well. Though, during the past few weeks and months, my photo side has been put on the back burner as I see how this writing thing comes together. I’ve still been out photographing a lot; I just haven’t had the time and energy to look through and edit as I would like.

One of the reasons the writing has been consistent is I have scheduled the time to write. But I have not been as good about this on my photo side. (I do have an upcoming blog on scheduling and creativity. Stay tuned.) When I was taking about this with my wife, she suggested I could maybe alternate weeks on my blog: one week of writing and one week of photos. So, as I thought about it this week, I decided this might be a fun experiment for a bit.

This would help me find time to go through my images, and it would help me look at my photos slightly differently. One of the themes I hear a lot in the photo world is to be working on projects to help look beyond the “single pretty picture”. And on a few different podcasts and in articles I’ve read, I keep hearing about looking through my photos to find patterns, textures and common themes that I might not have noticed before. Since so much of the way I photograph and organize my website is by location, I thought this could be an interesting and helpful challenge for myself.

Anyway, for a while, I’m planning to alternate weeks of a writing blog and a photo blog. Even though I have spent part of this week writing about my change, this will be my first blog focused more towards photography. For the photo weeks, I am planning to post 6-12 images that I think work together in some way. I’ll have a little intro and then dive into the photos. And I’ll see where things go from there.

To round out June and Pride Month, I thought it would be fun to do a color spectrum of photos. When I did one of my shows at 4P Studios, the owner arranged my photos in a rainbow around the room. Since I was still new to landscape photography I hadn’t even notice I had edited and then given her a body of work that could be hung that way. So, below is a collection of work that I hope accomplishes the same thing. Thanks so much for your support and encouragement, and I hope this change will be fun and interesting for all of us.
