Polo

Aiken County has long been a horse community. Its early history is as a winter colony for those escaping the cold of the North. And many of those people brought their horses. They would ride them casually in Hitchcock Woods, work them on the training tracks or ride them hard up and down the polo fields that were being developed around the county. I was asked by a friend to come watch a practice and take some photos. I quickly realized how much fun this sport would be to watch and shoot. I still bring my old sports photography skills, but I am now blending them with my nature and abstract works. As I watch the horses, their riders and the ball go back and forth, I hope to create something uniquely mine to show off the beauty and action of this sport.
